He never doubted his psychological capability to murder, nor his physical capability to perform the executions. Lack of self-confidence had never been a concern of his. Once he set his mind to something, and applied his full concentration to a critical task, he had always been satisfied with the results. He took pride in that.
He was also reasonably confident he would never be caught if he decided to end the existence of the four tormentors, although, if he was caught and imprisoned or subjected to lethal injection for his crimes, he could accept that. He would try to avoid capture and would not tolerate anyone who became a threat. But, he did not have an intense fear of imprisonment or death. If he had to pay that price, so be it.
No, it was not psychological, physical, or fear of retribution considerations which delayed his decision. It was an intellectual issue with him. Just murdering people using conventional methods had no appeal. Any assassin could do that. So, he did not seriously think about becoming a murderer until he managed to craft execution scenarios which were sufficiently ingenious and enigmatic.
Now, the waiting was over. He had reviewed and refined his action plan. It was good. Very good. He was pleased with himself as he enjoyed the expensive cigar he had saved for this moment of celebration.
The planning was complete. Now, the exciting part. The action. His first victim would soon depart this earth.
